The publishing house Danilo Montanari of Ravenna has been involved in contemporary art, photography and architecture since 1980, bringing out more than 700 titles and collaborating with leading Italian and international artists from Mario Schifano to Sol Lewitt, from Jannis Kounellis to Joseph Kosuth and Giulio Paolini.
It published Maurizio Cattelan’s first book in 1989, and the first significant monograph on Alighiero Boetti.
In particular Danilo Montanari Editore handles limited edition artists’ books.
An exhibition of the publisher’s collection, with catalogue, was held in September 2011 at Bologna University, in the Great Hall of the Library, with a presentation by Mario Diacono.
Photographers on the list include Luigi Ghirri, Olivo Barbieri and Paolo Ventura, with emerging artists Michele Buda, Lisa Santarelli, Alessandra Dragoni and Giuseppe De Mattia
The publishing house works with art galleries, public administrations and bank and museum foundations (Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Rome, MOCA Los Angeles, Musée de la Marine, Nice, Rossini Opera Festival, Pesaro, Christian Stein, Milan, Marmotti Collection, Reggio Emilia, UCLA, California, etc.).
For years Danilo Montanari Editore has been taking part in national and international trade fairs and shows such as Artissima (Turin), Artelibro (Bologna), Mia Milano, Artefiera (Bologna), Fotofever Brussels, Codex San Francisco and in New York with the studio Aperture.
