Il soggetto di Alps Gepgraphies and People è la percezione della montagna vista dagli scalatori: cime, precipizi, crepacci, miraggi e allucinazioni nelle geografie. In queste immagini è tutto vero. Le proporzioni e le forme sono reali. Anche le persone e la posizione in cui si trovano sono reali.
The subject of “Alps – Geographies and People” is how the mountain is perceived from the climbers’ point of view – its peaks and precipices, the mirages and hallucinations in its geography. In these images, everything is true. The proportions and the forms are real. Even the people and the position they’re in…those, too, are real.
Olivo Barbieri (1954) è tra i più importanti fotografi internazionali.La sua ricerca si concentra inizialmente sull’illuminazione artificiale nella città europea e orientale. Dal 1989 viaggia abitualmente in Oriente, soprattutto in Cina. Nel 1996, il Museum Folkwang di Essen, Germania, gli dedica una retrospettiva.
Nel 2003 inizia il progetto site specific_ che coinvolge diverse città nel mondo tra le quali Roma, Montreal, Amman, Shanghai, Siviglia, Las Vegas, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, Brasilia, Rio de Janeiro, Bangkok, Mexico City, Istanbul, Tel Aviv.
Ha esposto nei più importanti musei, istituzioni e festival internazionali tra i quali, MOMA San Francisco, Sundance Film Festival, Centre Pompidou, Tate Modern, Walker Art Centre Minneapolis, Museo MaRT di Rovereto.
Sull’opera dell’artista sono stati pubblicati numerosi libri e cataloghi; opere di Barbieri sono presenti in musei e collezioni d’arte pubbliche e private in Europa e negli Stati Uniti.

Olivo Barbieri (1954) is one of the foremost international photographers. His research was initially concentrated on artificial lighting in western and eastern cities. Since 1989 he has been travelling regularly in the east, especially China. In 1996 the Museum Folkwang of Essen, Germany, held a retrospective. In 2003 he began the project site specific_ which involves several cities worldwide including Rome, Montreal, Amman, Shanghai, Seville, Las Vegas, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, Brasilia, Rio de Janeiro, Bangkok, Mexico City, Istanbul and Tel Aviv. He has exhibited at the most important international museums, institutes and festivals such as MOMA San Francisco, Sundance Film Festival, Centre Pompidou, Tate Modern, Walker Art Centre Minneapolis and Museo MaRT di Rovereto. Numerous books and catalogues have been published on the artist’s work, which features in museums and public/private collections in Europe and the United States.
