Creato da Andrea Botto in memoria del nonno, questo libro d’artista traccia il viaggio di Primo Benedetti dal Nord della Germania fino alla sua casa in Toscana, dopo essere stato rilasciato dai campi di prigionia nazisti alla fine della seconda guerra mondiale, il 19 giugno del 1945. Botto seleziona le immagini su internet, digitando le date e i nomi delle città attraversate dal nonno. Pagine di immagini storiche e contemporanee sono così combinate con riproduzioni in scala 1:1 di documenti e lettere spedite alla famiglia durante la prigionia. È come se il lettore scoprisse un’enciclopedia di guerra piena di documenti personali lasciati tra le sue pagine (Jeffrey Ladd).
Created in the memory of Andrea Botto’s grandfather Primo Benedetti, the book traces his journey through Northern Germany to his home in Tuscany after being released from a Nazi prisoner of war camp on June 19, 1945. Botto’s approach was to compile images from the internet by searching dates in tandem with the names of cities through which her grandfather passed. Pages of historical images are combined with 1:1 scale personal documents and letters sent to his family during his imprisonment. The resulting book feels as if the reader has discovered an encyclopedia of war filled with tender personal documents slipped between its pages (Jeffrey Ladd).
Andrea Botto nasce a Rapallo (GE) nel 1973, dove vive e lavora. Attento alle contaminazioni con i diversi linguaggi dell’arte contemporanea, usa la fotografia come sezione del mondo, per metterne a nudo le stratificazioni.Dal 1999 espone la sua ricerca in mostre collettive e personali, in Italia e all’estero, ottenendo importanti riconoscimenti internazionali. Dal 2004 al 2013 insegna all’Istituto Europeo di Design di Torino e dal 2006 è direttore artistico della rassegna Rapallo Fotografia Contemporanea. È tra i membri fondatori del collettivo artistico Fotoromanzo Italiano.
Sue opere sono conservate in collezioni pubbliche e private.

Andrea Botto was born in 1973, in Rapallo (GE), where he lives and works.
Interested in the cross-pollination of various contemporary art mediums he uses photography as a means of dissecting the world in order to expose its stratifications.
Since 1999 he has exhibited his work in one-man and group exhibitions in Italy and abroad, winning important international awards. He usually gives lectures and educational workshops in museums and institutions.
From 2004 to 2013 he taught at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Turin and since 2006 he is artistic director of the Rapallo Contemporary Photography “Artist in residence” program. He is one of the founder members of the artistic collective Fotoromanzo Italiano.
His works are to be found in private and public collections.
