Piero Manzoni, a highly innovative and provocative artist, he did his first Achromes at the end of the fifties, great white surfaces soaked in glue and kaolin. In 1959 he founded the magazine Azimuth and the Azimuth Gallery. Manzoni’s style became increasingly radical, he went beyond the surface of the picture and put forward a series of provocative works, intolerant with regard to tradition. In 1961 at the Azimuth Gallery Manzoni presented one of his most famous performances: La consumazione dell’arte, dinamica del pubblico divorare l’arte [The Consumption of Art, Dynamics of the Public Devouring Art].
